Bias in Homeless Housing

This is a great article related to biased results in housing the homeless. It isn’t new information but because of it, the Markup created a way for all of us to help gather information so we can work to solve the problem. Here’s how you can help obtain homeless scoring system data in your city or county, there are generic how-to guides on filing public records requests and even automated generators of such requests. Here’s what the Markup suggests:

  1. Find as much documentation as possible

  2. After putting in a request, don’t fear the follow-up

  3. Keep in mind that requests can take a long time

  4. When in doubt, ask the people who use the data every day

  5. See how others have analyzed the data in your city

  6. You don’t have to start from scratch
