Is your SMB at risk?

I’ve been working with Small to Mid-sized Business (SMB) for over two decades.  In my opinion, they are the heartbeat of the economy. When they run well, I think they are like small close-knit communities who watch each other’s back. They actually stop and have cake on your birthday. They not only know your family but can pinch-hit for you in an emergency (thanks Tennille), and right now they are very vulnerable.

Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen many statistics about the cyber vulnerability of SMB.  This is a long article from Chief Privacy Officer (CPO) Magazine that addresses many of the reasons why this is becoming critical.  In addition to the information in this article, think about these things in relation to why your company might be at risk:

  1. Do you have the right people in the IT department?

  2. Do you have anyone on staff with some security and/or privacy knowledge?

  3. Do you have a governance program specifically for security or privacy?

  4. Do you use multi-factor authentication (MFA) and have good password policies?

  5. Do you manage the company credentials?

  6. Do you have tools to detect the bad guys, if not, do you outsource this?

  7. Do you know where your data is?
